History

The University of Los Andes was first established in the year 1948, as the result of the Liberal Party’s push for modernization, amongst this the interest in a higher learning reform to support the newly emerging industry in the nation, with a need to train the future work generation the process to establish the upcoming university continued despite the violent years the nation was facing.

The University of Los Andes was a such founded as a separate entity from either party or any religious association, with intellectuals from both parties playing a role in it’s creation, and inspiration taken from Columbia University, with the dream of providing the country with a new generation of leaders to lead the country in it’s post-war era.

In the present day it operates as one of the most famous and prestigious institutions in the country, with some of the highest quality courses available in the nation and some of it’s strongest research output, making it one of the best ranked institutions across Colombia.

Admission requirements

Admission to the University of Los Andes is based on both a student’s high-school results as well as their performance at the ICFES test, a national test required of all graduating students in Colombia, which serves as a benchmark and is a requisite in most national universities.

For International Students the university’s admission portals shows the expected cut-offs for each grading system in the world, however they are in general rather lax, and most international students should be accepted with little issue.

Student Life

All students at the University of Los Andes get full access to it’ various facilities, which include sports centers, movie projections, music performances and open forums that allow students to both pursue entertainment as well as find new spaces to develop their skills.

Part-time work

Through it’s CTO (Professional Trajectory Center) the University of Los Andes offers it’s students an online tool to upload their work resume and apply to any job listing of their interest, registration is free and open to any students enrolled at the institution.

When it comes to the University of Los Andes Tuition Fees are rather straightforward, all undergraduate courses at the institution have a cost of $17,968,000 COP, with the exception of Medicine, which has a higher cost, amounting to $25,568,000 COP.
