For establishing the university, by the president of Canadian Bank of Commerce, Canadian Senator William McMaster given funds to a university which was merged of Toronto Baptist College and Woodstock College, Woodstock, Ontario. In 1887, McMaster University was officially merged with Toronto Baptist College and Woodstock College, which was granted royal agreement.
In 1890, beginning of McMaster University the first courses were initially limited to Arts and Theology leading to BA degree and the first degree was presented in 1894.
