History

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology was created in 2009 as public research university, itself the result of the merger of the polytechnical University of Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Research Center.

In the present day, Karlsruhe is a member of TU9, an alliance which consists of the leading Technical Universities in the country.

Admission requirements

As per German law, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology requires students to provide proof of a university entrance qualification, which as a matter of fact, depending on your country of origin might not be the same as your secondary school qualification.

On top of that the university has it’s own assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung; FSP), which will be required of some potential students, and is presented after a one-year preparatory course.

Fees

The basic tuition fee at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is EUR 1,500, however, this amount is mostly aimed at international students, and as such many potential students will find themselves exempt of this rule, amongst them the following:

  • Students of EU/EEA 
  • International students who have a German “Abitur” 
  • Abroad Students established in Germany 
  • Students who enter KIT through cooperation programs
